WordPress VS Wix

WordPress VS Wix

THE TOP 2 DIFFERENCES

When looking to develop your own websites, the choices are many. Do you go down the traditional and longstanding WordPress or venture to the new and growing website builders such as Wix?

Both wix and wordpress are brilliant website building platforms – and the decision of which to choose is an entirely personal decision. There are pros and cons to each and we have outlined the two major factors below to help you decide which is best for you.

FLEXIBILITY AND FUNCTIONALITY

One of the main differences between the likes of WordPress to Wix and other free website building platforms is that WordPress is an open source platform which means you can adapt the code within the website to customise your own site. As opposed to wix, which has set templates and the ability to customise is limited.

It is for this reason that more complex and advanced websites that require specialised or unique coding will prefer WordPress. If you are looking to develop an information site only that follows a generic template layout, then Wix will do just fine. If down the track you would look to expand and customise your site further, you are better starting out with WordPress so you have the option down the track.

EASY MANAGEMENT

With the more complex functionality of WordPress, comes a more involved learning process and higher level of content management skills. In saying that, once you are familiar with the platform, it is as simple as making changes to a word document and uploading pictures to facebook.

For those sites with more involved coding, you will require some coding knowledge if you’d like to make code edits yourself, or engage a web developer to do so.

Wix on the other hand eliminates the presence of coding with a simple drag and drop feature for those with no web development skills.

When it comes down to it, it really depends on the style and type of site you require, not only at present, but down the track as your business evolves. Be sure to think about your future website needs and where you’d like the site to go so that you invest in the right platform at the start.
