To often do business owners create social media pages without having a plan first, avoid these social media marketing mistakes when you go online!
NOT HAVING A PLAN:
Once you commit to a social media platform you need to be consistent and continue to engage your audience and customers. It takes hard work and organisation so sit down and plan what you are going to post and when to post for maximum results.
If someone comments, likes or shares content from your page be sure to ALWAYS engage with them. Not responding to comment is considered anti-social and you don’t want to be seen as only interested in self-promotion. Engaging with your customers will boost exposure and your image! This applies for both positive and negative comments!
SELLING TO MUCH:
If you Hard Sell you will have a hard time building an audience. A simple moto to live by is 70% engagement + 30% promotion. Focus on building relationships first, the selling will follow.
NOT SELLING ENOUGH:
I know what you are going to say! Now, I didn’t say NOT to sell, just be sure you have a proven strategy for when you do. Implement a ‘soft’ approach when the time is right to convert you’re engaged following into paying customers.
NOT MONITORING THE METRICS:
At first, it’s going to be trial and error when building brand awareness but at the some point you will need to assess whether what you are doing is actually working. Assess what would benefit your business most, for example, brand mentions, social shares, clicks to website, these are various measurable actions you can use.
WORRYING ABOUT HOW MANY FOLLOWERS YOU HAVE:
Studies show that only 3-8% of your Facebook fans actually see your posts. This is why you should focus on quality and engaging content to increase this rate up rather than trying to get more “likes” on your page. Organic reach is what you want to achieve more than anything.
